America’s first national preserve, Big Cypress was born from a compromise. Private interests wanted an airport and significant commercial development. Residents, Indigenous tribes, and environmentalists didn’t agree on much, but they agreed the construction would ruin the pristine wetland ecosystem, so they put aside their differences and struck a deal with the government to protect 729,000 acres as a new type of nature preserve, one that would still allow for hunting, cattle grazing, and resource extraction. Available as a poster, framed print, notecard, postcard, metal sign, or canvas, this original national park art would look great on any wall.
